Boardgames and why they are soooooo AWESOME!

Chiquita Patrizi, spokesperson for Prima Toys shares the many benefits and reasons for playing games and boardgames.

Games have been around for centuries and for good reason – they entertain, they’re fun and most importantly they bring people together! Today it is no different with people playing with friends, family members and in large groups. This type of entertainment has become so popular that we have even seen a number of Boardgame clubs crop up all over the country. Boardgames are great for children, teenagers and adults because there are games for everyone!

There are also numerous benefits to this type of play.

  • You have fun and, as a result, feel good. One of the things that most often happens while we play is that we laugh, at ourselves and with others. As someone once said – “laughing is the best medicine”. Think Anti-Monopoly, Hotel Tycoon and Rummikub.

  • It creates good family time. Spending time with the family, with no interruption and no distractions is one of the key benefits of playing boardgames. Switch off the TV, put cellphones on silent and gather your kids for a few hours of face to face fun! As a parent, it helps you teach your children fundamental skills such as strategy, being a diplomatic winner and a good loser. Games such as Snakes & Ladders, Junior Classic Inline and Junior Classic Who’s There are ideal for developing these skills.

  • Memory formation and cognitive skills. Allowing your kids to play a board game helps them practice essential cognitive skills like problem solving. It stimulates complex thought and memory formation, especially if you’re playing games where children need to match a card with another. Games include Frozen Matching Game, Lion Guard Matching Game and Peppa Pig Dominoes.

  • Speed up your responses. Get yourself a game like Rubik’s Speed Cube, Flipside or 20 Questions and you’ll get better at remembering and arriving at the answer or the objective of the game quicker.

  • Child development: Board games can help with the development of logic and reasoning skills, improve critical thinking and boost spatial reasoning. Encouraging children to play different types of board games can also increase verbal and communication skills, while helping develop attention span and the ability to concentrate for longer periods of time. Games for developing these skills include Twist & Turn, L.O.L. Surprise Game and Minnie Play & Learn Educational Game.

Harper and I were super duper lucky to be gifted with a few items to review! This is what we got!! Sofia The First My Nail Studio Game Frozen Surprise Slides Minnie Play & Learn Educational Game Peppa Pig Dominoes

The Sofia Nail Studio is a real blast. You can add all the colours and shape details from the designs and stickers provided to your nail art to create playful features that will surprise and delight you. There are loads of nail activities inside that are fun and easy!

The Frozen Surprise Slides are totally awesome! A new favourite of ours!! In this game, players can journey high up into the mountains above Arendelle with your favorite friends from Frozen. Slide past the snow monster Marshmallow, glide across icy peaks, or tread through the troll’s secret glen! Shortcut slides could zoom you ahead or push you backward! You’ll never know when the enchanting locations will mix and flip. It’s a different game every time you play! This awesome game has just really blown us away, we had such great fun!

The Minnie Play & Learn Educational game is an 8 puzzle activity pack which is ideal for ages 3 years and older. Each puzzle features Minnie and Daisy on fun adventures. Little girls who are Disney fans will love this set! My little Harpie is puzzle crazy so she has been totally consumed by this activity pack!! She is loving every minute of it!

The Peppa Pig Dominoes were so much fun too! Dominoes is a popular game and now you can play with your favourite pre-school character – Peppa Pig. The game contains brightly coloured picture dominoes for the little ones to enjoy, which will also help to develop memory skills. For ages 3 and over, for 2 to 4 players.

As a family we have been playing dominoes for years and Harper always loved "joining in".... Of course she could not quite understand how to play "real" dominoes correctly so this awesome child friendly version of dominoes has been a real hit as she can now fully participate!
