Unplug Yourself joins Comic Con Cape Town

Unplug Yourself is excited to announce that they will be at the highly anticipated Comic Con Cape

Town between the 27th and the 30th of April 2023. Comic Con Cape Town will be a four-day festival

dedicated to the world of pop culture where the best in gaming and Esports, cosplay, international

celebrities, and more will be available for the whole family to experience.

Unplug Yourself will have dedicated board games tournament and Trading Card Game (TCGs) playing

areas for both newbies and experts. “We are very excited to be bringing high-end board games and

TCGs to festival goers in the Mother City. Unplug Yourself will have a dedicated section where

visitors can learn to play and take part in competitive play opportunities. We know how much

people enjoy games and we’re excited to introduce them to both new games and old favourites.

Visitors can look out for Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: the Gathering, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Ticket to

Ride, Catan , 5 Second Rule, and more.” says Philip Galliford, spokesperson for Unplug Yourself.

Road to Catan Worlds 2024

Visitors can try their hand at Catan, a strategy board game that requires players to trade, build and

settle. The Road to CATAN 2024 World Championship will be launched and announced at CCCT.

Road to Catan Worlds 2024 is a national tournament circuit where players play their hearts out to

represent South Africa at the Catan World Championships in Europe in 2024. Unplug Yourself will

send both the 2023 and the 2024 National Champions to the Catan World Championships to

represent South Africa.

Our previous winner, Brett (Fish) Anderson, represented South Africa at the Catan World

Championships in Malta in 2022; he placed 7 th overall. Festival goers will be able to chat with

Anderson about his Catan journey and even challenge him to a game of Catan!

Unplug Yourself Play Area

A dedicated Unplug Yourself area allows visitors to experience games, learn to play, and more. TCG

formal events will be happening for seasoned Pokémon and Magic: the Gathering players. Players

can hold the new Pokémon Scarlet & Violet cards and enjoy the latest, newly released MtG cards.

A Catan play area will be part of Unplug Yourself and it’s specifically for those who want to learn

how to play, challenge seasoned players including our current SA Champ and just have some fun

while standing a chance to win great prizes. With over 10 million units sold worldwide and counting,

Catan is a modern classic that continues to hit the gaming sweet spot. The board setup can be

changed with every gameplay, creating new possibilities for out-strategizing opponents. Expansion

sets add novelty and different themes. Since it first hit shelves in 1995, the game has appealed to a

wide age group ranging from 9 to 90 years.
